Successful 2010 Golf Outing | ||
Dutch Valley Food Distributors would like to thank each of the sponsors, participants and volunteers for helping to make the Third Annual Firemen's Golf Classic a success! The tournament took place on Thursday, October 28th, 2010 at the Lebanon Country Club. The goal of the tournament, which was sponsored by Dutch Valley Food Distributors of Myerstown, is to raise funds for eight fire departments in Lebanon and Berks counties. Local business leaders were encouraged to show their support for the fire departments through participation as a sponsor or as a golfer. Money raised from this year's tournament totaled $40,000 and will be donated to the following fire companies: Frystown Fire Company, Goodwill Fire Company, Keystone Hook & Ladder, Rehrersburg Fire Company, Kutztown Community Fire Company, Marion Fire Company, Mt. Aetna Fire Company and Bethel Union Fire Company. There were three winning teams in this year's tournament. In the Platinum Sponsor Flight, first place went to the team from Fulton Bank. Team members included Steve Ulrich, Brandon Bernard, Robert Mease and Sam Breidenstein. First place in the Gold Sponsor Flight was awarded to the team from Wachovia Bank. Team Members included Harry Derrick, Jeff Wasmuth, Jeff Marks and Gary Poffenberger. In the Firemen's Flight, first place was awarded to the team from Karns Food. Team members included Doug Diffenderfer, Mat Rudderow, Bruce Rudderow and Ted Kintz. There were a number of specialty contests that also took place during the tournament. Specialty Contest Winners include: Ron Glessner (Longest Putt), Mike Shaak (Straightest Drive), Pat Hertzog (Longest Drive-Women), Jeff Marks, (Longest Drive-Men), Troy Eberly (Closest to Pin- Hole #9), Mat Rudderow (Closest to Pin-Hole #12), and Ted Kintz (Closest to Pin-Hole #14). Community members were also encouraged to show their support by purchasing tickets for the Ball Drop Contest that was held at the end of the tournament. A $5.00 donation gave the ticketholder a chance to win one of three cash prizes. This year's winners were Korena Musser, daughter of Phil and Melissa Musser of Lititz ($2,000 prize), Brian Miller of Lebanon ($1,000 prize) and Andy Wichert of Myerstown ($500 prize). According to Dutch Valley Foods CEO Mel Burkholder, the Firemen's Golf Classic
was established to assist area fire departments with funding for equipment and
continuing education. "Our
local fire departments sacrifice so much without ever asking anything in
return. The least we can do is
assist them in raising money to support them with their needs to keep our
communities safe."
