Demand Planner

Job Summary:

This Demand Planning position is responsible for all forecasting activities associated with over 6,000 customers and over 5,500 products. The Demand Planner creates and maintains forecast models for the companies’ customers, incorporating business intelligence and forecast information gathered from sales, marketing, finance, procurement, and mining data within JD Edwards (JDE). The Demand Planner position leads the review of demand patterns to help identify both positive and negative patterns or issues that pact the success of the business. The Demand Planner is the integration point between sales and Operations.  This position leads the dialogue each month for respective customers and products with key counterparts in Sales and Marketing.

Functional Responsibilities:

80% of Role

  • Review historical sales trends, research demand drivers, prepare forecast data, develop statistical forecast models, and evaluate forecast results to prepare dynamic demand forecasts on a regular basis using Distribution Requirements Planning (DRP), JD Edwards (JDE), Power BI & Microsoft Excel.
  • Develop demand metrics and forecasts at multiple levels of aggregation for multiple time horizons as part of a demand planning function for 5500+ products and tracking the forecast accuracy through Mean Absolute Percent Error (MAPE) and Forecast Bias programs.
  • Coordinate cross-functional research activities to reconcile significant variances and refine the forecast model to reflect updated sales and marketing assumptions.
  • Test and validate forecast models and reformulate and redesign as needed to ensure that models are producing accurate and adequate forecasts.
  • Interact with sales and marketing, to understand demand forecast drivers and define data requirements.
  • Utilize a collaborative and consensus approach by working with Sales and Marketing senior managers to both identify and define problems and management objectives and obtain and ensure that current and accurate information is used for demand forecasts.
  • Use and maintain the J.D. Edwards Demand Planning software as the primary forecasting system tool to formulate both established and experimental mathematical models that utilize and assign numerical parameters to various demand and supply variables and constants and that consider alternatives.
  • Provide input to the organization executives, by writing reports and memorandum and presenting the results of the mathematical/statistical forecasts and data analyses, to aid in developing inventory strategies on existing items, new products, and product phase-outs to improve inventory turnovers and to avoid stockouts.

20% of Role

  • Being a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in creating a Safety Stock Control project and considered as an innovator in designing the New & Changing Items’ (NCI) using Office 365 suite (Excel, Planner, SharePoint, Power Automate).
  • Design the first S&OP process for the company across the board to observe and evaluate the current system and its components to ensure better decision-making process with a view of maintaining service levels more than 95% and meeting the set Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Closely coordinate and communicate customer plans with buyers and in-house manufacturing schedulers to help make decisions regarding setting prices, allocating resources, shipping/distribution methods and timing, etc.
  • Some travel will be required to connect directly with customers.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering or related field (Master's preferred)
• Forecasting certification preferred.
• At least 2-5 years of supply chain experience or business analytics role.
• Experience with JDE ERP System preferred. Experience with other ERP or SAP considered
• Demonstrated proficiency in statistics, forecasting and forecasting methods with an understanding of their financial and operational impacts.
• This position requires strong analytical, organizational, decision making, and presentation skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills are also essential to effectively interact with all teams, areas and levels of business affecting the forecast process.
