Fried Cabbage with Bacon

A simple and easy side dish that can be made in no time! Made with bacon, onions, and garlic pepper, this Southern-style recipe won't disappoint and makes weeknight meals even better!

Ingredients
  • 8 slices bacon, uncooked and chopped
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 1 medium bell pepper, diced
  • 1 Tbsp Course Garlic Pepper (SKU 102610)
  • 1 large head of cabbage, cored and sliced
  • ½ cup chicken stock or broth
  • 2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp liquid smoke, optional
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • kosher salt, to taste
Instructions
  1. Heat a large cast-iron skillet on medium-high heat. Add the chopped bacon and cook until browned and crispy. Transfer to a small bowl and set aside. Leave the bacon drippings in the skillet.
  2. Add chopped onions and bell peppers to the skillet. Sauté until soft and caramelized (about 6 - 8 minutes).
  3. Add sliced cabbage and sauté until ¾ of the way cooked (about 8 - 10 minutes) making sure to stir occasionally. The cabbage should become slightly browned.
  4. Add cooked bacon back into the skillet and mix. Season the mixture with Course Garlic Pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika and stir.
  5. Add chicken stock or broth, apple cider vinegar, and liquid smoke. Cook until the liquid has fully evaporated. Make sure to stir occasionally.
  6. Season to taste with kosher salt. Serve with your favorite meal and enjoy! Simple and delicious!
